I am running 9 inch wide rims on the rear of my 65 Cuda. I have the rear springs moved into the frame for more clearence, but the wheel well is the stock size. My tires are 275 40r17. My rims have a 5.95 inch back space or +24mm offset. I have not driven the car but I jacked the car on all kinds of angles with about 200lbs in the trunk and no rubbing. I'm not sure how much difference in size your wheel wells are to mine.
