my 273 must be one of the first as its a 63 casting ,im putting it back together now ,but my parts man says it uses a gasket that is listed as 64-5 only ,i know the bolt angles are different but i thought as long as the gasket is small port it should fit ,,,is there something i i should know or just put a 318 small port gasket in there,,ive sill got the original steel shim gasket just in case

Intake gaskets are the same, regardless of year. As long as they are the small port ones, you should be fine. I picked up 2 set of the shim-type intake gaskets on EBay not long ago. They show up every now and then.They haven't leaked so far!

You are correct as long as the ports all line up then its good. I have had zero luck with the metal ones though

Rick...I have heard this frequently. Mine seem fine, but I'm using them with a stock cast-iron Commando intake. I would think an aluminum manifold would prefer the fiber ones.
