I'm new here, new to 'cudas but a huge fan of /6's! The quest for my third /6 has brought me to my "new" baby - this '65 Barracuda!

(Other pics won't upload from home; will have to add at work tomorrow!)

Wow! Nice Barracuda, looks real clean. Can't wait to see additional pictures. I've only seen those hubcaps in the brochures.

We've already rebuilt the carb, added new shocks (last night!), replaced the belts, thermostat & coolant (after some very rusty flushes!) and added a custom built 'seat lift' for my vertically challenged self!
(Thanks, Jon!)

Yep, these pics were taken right after driving it 65 miles home from its previous home. The tailpipe clamp/hanger had slipped off its mount en route...that's been fixed too! Thanks for pointing it out, though!

Will you be bringing the car to Carlisle this year?

The interior is quite respectable for 42 years old... The carpet in back under the glass is faded and ripped, but the seats and headliner are in good condition. My major gripe is that the rear windows don't seem to want to roll down.

The motor appears untouched other than a reman carb. I've been lectured on the necessity of adding a Pertronix. Right now at the very least I'll need a new ball & trunion boot before the ~8hr run to Carlise...but I have not ruled out that trip yet!

I wouldn't necessarily recommend pertronix for an electronic ignition upgrade--there are several other paths that would be more reliable. If you aren't racing or rev'ing it high, you could go with an electronic dist from chrysler (<$50 on epay), MSD Blaster2 coil, and an HEI setup ($12-$30 depending o n what you end up with). Nicer setup, in my opinion.

If you haven't done it already, I suggest you sign up at www.slantsix.org
There is a lot of info about the petronix and HEI ignition systems, along with many other things.

If you want to know about the slant, it is really the place to be. Lots of people with all kinds of slants there.

Does anyone ever go to the Syracuse Nationals?

Does this group ever have local gatherings or do you all just meet up at Carlisle? In my diesel club, we meet up locally on a regular basis. (BTW - our administrator is located in B.C.!)

We also have an annual TDIFest located somewhere in North America...this year it's in Montreal over Labor Day weekend.

The Fish passed inspection yesterday!

Things of note:

The rubber brake hoses need replacing and the looseness in the steering is from the steering box, not the rest of the front suspension as I was guessing.

Beautiful car! Love that color.

My mechanic has been trying to convince me to switch to an electronic ignition from Mopar (originally had points, then went with Pertronix, then switched back to points). He says they run about $200 from Chrysler... does that sound right?

It has been repainted, but I believe it to be the turquoise you describe.
